ENFANTS RICHES DÉPRIMÉS
Founded in 2012 by Atlanta-born designer Henri Alexander Levy, ENFANTS RICHES DEPRIMES (meaning "depressed rich kids") is a Paris- and Los Angeles-based brand inspired by French punk. Drawing inspiration from punk rock, its avant-garde designs are reflected in a wide range of items, including jackets, hoodies, knitwear, and pants, featuring meticulous handmade finishes, unique prints, distressed designs, and DIY patchwork. Its unique style, which blends the spirit of punk with luxury, continues to attract attention from fashion enthusiasts around the world.
The AW25 collection was designed as a battle that reflects the tension between repression and impulse, and structure and transgression, through clothing. Designer Henri Alexander Levy positioned this season as a visualization of the tug-of-war between "consciousness vs. unconsciousness" and "discipline vs. impulse," exploring the power dynamics of the inner self and history through fashion. Cardboard tank models were used symbolically on the runway, bringing visual allusions to military control and power into the space. This function, more than the context of the clothing, served to spatialize the theme through spatial and physical motifs. Furthermore, the collection featured multiple instances of self-restraining details, tight silhouettes, and structural lines that evoke repression and restraint. References were also made to modern and contemporary art movements such as the Viennese Secession, Art Brut, and primitive art, and ERD incorporated expressions of "rawness" and "imperfection" through these aesthetic references. By allowing the coexistence of a straightforward, rough-edged artistry and a divergence between a constructive and decorative aesthetic sense on clothing, the clothes themselves become allegorical canvases.
